Shop owner fined for dangerous fire protection

The fire protection was so dangerous the shop was temporarily shut down by the Fire Service

Following a visit by the licensing officer, the shop was closed down overnight whilst the owner installed a temporarily interlinked fire alarm system, the inspection revealed a number of deficiencies which included a lack of emergency escape lighting, the lack of a suitable alternative fire exit, inadequate fire detection and warning systems and breaches in the fire separation between the shop and the home above.

The fire officers visited again and found that the separation between the shop and flat had not been completed despite giving an extension.

The owner has admitted breaches of fire safety regulations and has been fined £2k and ordered to pay more than £3k in costs for breaching Article 30 of the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005.
