Six month suspended sentence for breaching Fire Regulations

No Fire Risk Assessment, Inadequate means of escape and inadequate fire alarm system

A guest house owner in Barking had his six month sentence suspended for two years for breaching fire regulations.

With a building that could sleep 23 people there were inadequate fire escapes and fire detection, so on the morning of 30th April 2014 two people had to jump to safety following an electrical blaze which left 2 floors of this 3 floor building badly damaged.

A Fire Risk Assessment would have identified these issues and averted this fire on the basis that the fire alarm  and the means of escape improvements had been implemented.
