The fire certificates that were once issued by the Fire Brigade are now redundant and have been replaced by new fire safety regulations as outlined in 'the regulatory reform order 2006'.

The regulations state that every business must have a documented fire risk assessment in place and it is to be completed by a competent person/company.  It is also stipulated by many insurance companies as a prerequisite to validating insurance policies.  If you do not have a fire risk assessment in place you need one! The ‘New Regulatory Reform Order 2006’ is NOW in place meaning that: Every business is required to carry out a documented fire risk assessment to coordinate fire safety arrangements including staff training and escape planning.

Do you employ 5 or more people?

If so, there are no exemptions, no matter how small or large your premises are. If you employ 5 or more people you are required by law to have an up to date fire safety risk assessment which is documented and completed by a 'Competent Person'.
